Habitats and Communities Videos
This page contains some of the habitats and communities videos that we have watched in class, or that I may ask the children to watch at home. Click the button below to go to the Learn 360 Website where the REAL WORLD SCIENCE VIDEO on Habitats and other videos about Habitats are found. Learning Goal 3.1: We will learn what a habitat is. We will also learn what the five necessities of life are.

One of Canada's national animals is the beaver. These three videos grasp the intelligence of this amazing animal as it creates its own habitat.
|
Learning Goal 3.3: We will identify factors that affect the ability of plants and animals to survive in a specific habitat.
Learning Goal 3.7: We will describe structural adaptations that allow plants and animals to survive in a specific habitat.

If plants and animals do not have the five necessities of life (food, air, space, sunlight, and water)---it will affect the survival of the species.
Students will be writing an essay about an endangered animal, n Canada and why this animal is endangered. Here are some websites we visited: Canadian Wildlife Federation |
Learning Goal 3.2 : We will show an understanding of food chains as systems in which energy from the sun is transferred to producers (plants) and then to consumers (animals).
Learning Goal 3.5: We will classify organisms, including humans, according to their role in the food chain.

Learning Goal 3.6: We will learn to identify animals that are carnivores, herbivores, or omnivores.
|
|
Learning Goal 3.4 : We will learn that a community is a group of interacting species that share a common habitat.
All animals interact with each other. There are many ways animals interact. Some interactions are beneficial (good) for the organisms. Some interactions harm the organisms.
We are all interdependent! Watch the below two videos. How are these animals interacting with one another?

The CLOWNFISH AND ANEMONE A clownfish and an anemone have a special relationship in our oceans. The sea anemone is an organism that lives in the ocean. It injects poison into small fish and other animals that come near it. The clownfish does not get harmed by this poison. This allows the clownfish to HIDE in the anemone from predators that want to eat the clownfish. The sea anemone benefits from the clownfish because the clownfish eats all the algae and other things that make the sea anemone "dirty", So, it's kinda like the anemone hires the clownfish as its maid!!! They both benefit from one another! If you'd like to learn more information, click here: TREEHOUSE Project |

Learning Goal 3.8: We will learn to explain why changes in the environment have a greater IMPACT on specialized species (species that cannot adapt as well to different climates) than on generalized species (species that can adapt according to changes in the environment).
Learning Goal 3.9: We will show an understanding of why all habitats have limits to the number of plants and animals they can support.
|
|
Learning Goal 3.10: We will describe ways in which humans are dependent on natural habitats and communities.
Humans are dependent on our natural habitats and communities for MANY reasons. Some of these reasons are: medicine, water, flood control in wetlands, and leisure activities. We must do our part to SAVE and CONSERVE these natural habitats. Below are some videos about the rain forest. We will learn WHY the rain forest is SOOOO important to our existence in class.

More Videos and Interesting Things That We Have Learned
One of my students in my class, JARED, introduced me to a show on TVO Kids entitled "Wild Kratts".. Wild Kratts is a fictional cartoon show that contains MANY true facts about animals. We watched one of the videos, and discussed the TRUE facts that were in the video. Then, students wrote a READING RESPONSE to tell me all the true facts that they have learned.
I modeled a response that can be found if you click the file below.: . WE CAN HAVE FUN LEARNING! ![]()
