Students will learn how to write a variety of text forms all year. We use the Nelson guide entitled "Text Structures" to learn how to write a good piece of writing. We also use many on-line sites to help us improve as writers.
We have shared writing sessions weekly. Shared writing occurs when students and teachers collaborate to write text forms.
We have modeled writing weekly. Modeled writing is when the teacher models a specific writing skill to the entire class or to a small group.
One of the Ontario Catholic School Graduate Expectations is to become:
AN EFFECTIVE COMMUNICATOR WHO SPEAKS, WRITES, AND LISTENS HONESTLY AND SENSITIVELY, RESPONDING CRITICALLY IN LIGHT OF GOSPEL VALUES
I hope that each one of my students achieve this goal! I will be there to help them along the way!
Writing EFFECTIVELY is an ESSENTIAL SKILL FOR YOUR CHILD'S FUTURE DEVELOPMENT!
This year, the Grade 3 class will be learning how to write a good, informational paragraph about a topic that they choose. They will learn how to RESEARCH their question, as well as to form a GOOD PARAGRAPH:
Success Criteria for a GOOD PARAGRAPH:
1. Start with a topic sentence that introduces WHAT your paragraph will be about. Remember, a paragraph has ONE main idea.
2. Add 3-4 supporting details. Supporting details are sentences that are about your main idea!
